I actually bought both versions, got the US version then when I went to Hong Kong on vacation, I picked up the import MegaCD version because EGM and all the other gaming rags were saying how incredible the music was in the Japanese version.I was underwhelmed. Sonic CD, one of the better games for my ill fated SegaCD that Sega suckered me into buying. The lyrics are stupid.I am not sure what the composer was trying to accomplish. I do not understand the deeper meaning of the lyrics and/or it's a "style".3. As of now I have three theories of what is happening:1. It is difficult to enjoy the techno whenever the song is slapping one upside the head with such idiotic lyrics. Here is an example off the top of my head:Guy1: Excalibar!Guy2: Just drop that bar.Guy1: Whatdya mean?!Guy2: Give and take!That is but one sample of many. Also, some of the lyrics which one can actually understand (most "words" seem to be heavily maligned to the point where they are nonsensical) seem to be little more than random strings knotted together for the sake of a rhyme or beat. Remember that the past remixes are the same in both versions.On a bit of a side-note, what the heck is up with the voice samples used in SCDJAP? You will be in the middle of a great beat and then there will be a wierd moan sample(s). Some of the songs I feel are excellent, but I am not sure how quickly I would swear by it. However, I have heard some people swear by the Japanese music which is rich in techno-flavor.

A few months ago I had a chance to listen to the US and Japanese tracks and found that they were both enjoyable. Sonic CD was a rather nostalgic game for me and the music I had remembered faintly even after several years.
